This tribute to the early Gretsch Chet Atkins Hollow Body models of the mid-'50s features full western appointments, including a ‘G’ brand on the upper bout, western-engraved fingerboard inlays and a steer's head headstock inlay. Other features include a 2 3/4"-deep laminated maple body, dual DynaSonic™ single-coil pickups, polished Bigsby® vibrato tailpiece with vintage flat handle, Grover® Sta-Tite™ machine heads, ‘arrow’ knobs, aged binding, gold hardware and Western Maple Stain finish.”

This guitar was purchased in “New Old Stock” condition in late 2007. It was a 2006 model marked down to a clearance sale price at GuitarsAndEffects.com. I had wanted a Gretsch for over a decade, although I used to think the western motif on the 6120 was tacky. I've clearly grown some sense since then. At one time, I attempted to “settle” for a 6121 Roundup, but I was dissatisfied. I vowed to never again settle for something less than what I wanted. At least where guitars are concerned.

Anyway, this thing is awesome. The only thing I dislike about it is that I'm constantly afraid of hurting it.

The back of the headstock and the warranty certificate were both autographed by Gretsch Guitars president and owner Fred Gretsch III. Mr. Gretsch was visiting Cream City Music as part of Gretsch Guitars' 125th Anniversary tour. Read the whole story here »
